THE GOODWILL GAMES: CONNECTING THROUGH SPORTS

Building connections, empowering communities, and creating lasting change through sports and service.

What Were The Goodwill Games?

The Goodwill Games were a transformative event where we brought 27 people to Kenya in 2017 to engage in community service, sports, and cultural exchange. With a focus on education, health, and empowerment, our team worked directly with local communities to build homes, provide food to those affected by AIDS, and contribute to projects that made a direct, positive impact.

Our Full Impact

Building a Home for a Widow and Her Children

During the 2017 Goodwill Games, one of the most impactful projects we undertook was building a home for a widow and her four children. They had been living in a makeshift shelter, which was unsafe and unsanitary. Our volunteers worked tirelessly to construct a traditional mud hut, giving this family a safe and stable home. This project was not just about providing shelter—it was about restoring hope and dignity to a family in need.

Working on the Community Center for Women and Children

A significant part of our mission was to improve the local community’s access to essential services. We dedicated a day to working on a community center designed to serve women and children. While we weren’t able to complete it during our time in the community, we made significant progress in its construction. This space, once finished, will provide local women and children with a safe place for educational and health services, helping improve their quality of life.

Hosting a Graduation Ceremony for Local Students

In a region where educational milestones are often overlooked, we were honored to host a rare graduation ceremony for students from one of the local schools. This event celebrated their hard work and perseverance, despite the many obstacles they faced. For the community, it was a powerful reminder that education is the key to breaking cycles of poverty. The students’ success was celebrated with music, speeches, and gifts, providing them with the recognition they truly deserved.

Organizing Soccer Games with Local Schools

Sports have the unique ability to unite people, and during the Goodwill Games, we organized soccer games between local schools. These matches were more than just games—they served as a platform for teaching teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship. The children involved not only had a great time but also gained valuable life skills that will help them in all areas of life. It was a fun and impactful way to engage with the youth and foster a sense of community pride.

Delivering Food and Supplies to the AIDS Community in Kangundo

The AIDS epidemic has devastated many communities, and in Kangundo, we provided critical food and supplies to families affected by the disease. Many of the people we helped had lost loved ones to AIDS, leaving them in dire need of support. We delivered food, toiletries, and other essential supplies to help these families regain some sense of stability and dignity. This effort was a small but important way to address the ongoing impact of the epidemic and provide relief to those who needed it most.
